We are pleased to share that our fellow band member
of 23 years, Robby Boone, was selected to be part of this banjo trading card series from Bluegrass Trading Company.

From his start in the 1970s, Robby was clearly no ordinary player. His Crowe-style banjo combined with his own signature tone is esteemed nationwide. According to one perceptive fan, “It sounds like he’s driving every note with a sledgehammer!

Congratulations, Rob.
Tonight, Shelly will be one of three judges at the 19th Annual Youth in Bluegrass Band Contest. This Silver Dollar City tradition, which takes place each season during Bluegrass & BBQ Festival, gives talented young musicians from across the nation the chance to compete for top honors and cash prizes during one of the country's premier bluegrass event.

Regretfully, Rob is no longer with us. He mentioned “retiring” from the banjo for many reasons in recent years and late last year he told us, “At the end of the year 2020 I am done.” He made the decision to quit playing in bands after fulfilling his 2020 commitments. Earlier this summer when we saw that nearly everything on our schedule had been cancelled due to the virus, we asked Rob if he would prefer to end his time with us then. He gratefully accepted.

The three of us who remain will continue playing together. For now, we will be the core of Lonesome Road and employ other musicians as needed. While there is obviously no exact replacement for Rob, we are excited about what changes the future may bring and we hope that you will join us as Lonesome Road begins a new chapter.

Last weekend, we played an annual event featuring over a dozen bands to benefit a locally based nonprofit, Convoy of Hope. Since its beginning, this faith-based organization has assisted people worldwide during times of crisis. The 2-day show helped raise $13,500 to help fund both domestic and international projects.

Here's one our favorites from our spring shows, Little Bessie:

We frequently...okay, nearly always...forget to video ourselves when we perform or practice. However, we did manage to get footage of these two songs before our gospel show in Chillicothe, MO. It's unclear exactly what's going on in the background, but we think our giant, new friend back there approves.

We were so busy in June, we didn't take time to update the blog. So here's a look back at what we were up to last month.

First up, Saturday June 10th, was one of our favorite Springfield MO area festivals, Pickin' in the Park at Walnut Grove, MO.

Later that afternoon, we were in Billings, MO for a show in the barn at Mooneyham Junction where the Mooneyham family has hosted Bluegrass & Country Music shows since the 1960's.
